The Florence Art Space and RX&SLAG Gallery have joined forces to present the first French exhibition by American artist Chaz Guest. Born in the United States, Guest began his career as a painter in the late 1980s following a pivotal encounter with renowned fashion designer Christian Lacroix.
His vibrant and socially engaged work explores African American history and the legacies of slavery, giving voice to stories that have too often been overlooked or distorted. Through a painting practice that is both narrative and expressive, Chaz Guest transforms collective memory into a powerful visual experience.
A lifelong admirer of Japan, Guest draws inspiration from the aesthetics of sumi ink painting. His swift, calligraphic brushwork infuses each composition with a dynamic energy that immediately captures the viewer's attention. Balancing expressive power with technical mastery, his work invites us to reconnect with history and share in a deeply human emotional experience.
