Lucy Fradkin

Riches en références aux fresques et mosaïques antiques, les peintures de Lucy Fradkin saisissent un instant intemporel à travers un regard contemporain. Depuis 1998, elle réalise une série d’œuvres figuratives peintes à l’huile ou à la gouache sur papier et carton. Inspirées des miniatures indiennes et persanes, de l’art aujourd’hui disparu des enseignes peintes à la main, ainsi que des arts sacrés et populaires, ses peintures mettent en scène des individus aux profils variés. Dans la tradition des peintres de scènes de genre, l'artiste place des figures, souvent féminines, dans des intérieurs domestiques. Silencieuses et immobiles, elles contribuent à l’atmosphère solennelle et mystérieuse de la scène.

Elle intègre également des éléments décoratifs issus du collage, provenant de sources variées telles que d’anciens catalogues, des guides de terrain ou des livres anciens. Par un travail minutieux de découpage et d’assemblage, elle développe des motifs et des compositions complexes qui deviennent un élément subtil de la surface de l’œuvre. Lucy Fradkin utilise la couleur et les motifs pour susciter des émotions et raconter des histoires de la vie quotidienne, invitant le spectateur à pénétrer dans un univers intime.
