Tamara KOSTIANOVSKY
Presentation

Tamara Kostianovsky was born in 1974 in Jerusalem, Israel and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the National School of Fine Arts “Prilidiano Pueyrredón” in Buenos Aires (1998), and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA (2003).
Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at El Museo del Barrio, NY (2007 and 2019); The Jewish Museum NY (2009); Bienal Sur, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2019); Musee du Textile et de la Mode, Cholet, France (2021); Children’s Museum of Manhattan, NY (2020); Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, NY (2021); Fuller Craft Museum, Boston (2021); Y Gallery, NY (2017); RX Gallery, Paris, France (2021); Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, MI (2015), and many others. The artist is the recipient of distinguished awards including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2010), a fellowship from New York Foundation for the Arts (2009), and two fellowships from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2012, 2008).
Work by the artist is included in the collection of El Museo del Barrio, NY and in numerous private collections in the United States and in Europe. In 2022, A monograph on her work entitled “Rapacious Beauty” will be published by the University of Chicago Press and distributed worldwide. Edited by Gonzalo Casals, New York City’s Cultural Affairs Commissioner, the 80-page book features essays by art historian Tatiana Flores (Rutgers University) and Rachel Vera Steinberg (Smack Mellon’s curator).
